The Bachata, a guitar-based trio (guitar, bongo, maraca), from the Dominican Republic, shares using its market a country/peasant/barrio sentimentality marked by bawdy humor that connects the gathering of food, love and a macho enjoy elaborating upon the power of women to overpower guys. It emerged mostly in male community areas (colmados/corner grocers and taverns) as opposed to family members spaces, therefore explaining the gender distinctiveness of this musical type. Its sung by mainly male performers, crooning about love plus the women who caused them discomfort and wronged all of them, usually because of unrequited or relinquished love.
Just recently admitted into main-stream Latin music (in the past ten years) by the well-respected Dominical merenguero, Juan Luis Guerra, has the once black colored sheep of Dominican music already been brought into the forefront in order that all personal and economic levels can now commence to benefit from the lilting Bachata.
